Ri nes security cabinets

Standards

Customers must provide a secure delivery point if they wish to qualify for possible refund on stolen totes or bundles. The preferred option is a secure cabinet fixed to a solid wall. If they wish to use an alternative method, they will need to demonstrate that it meets the following criteria or there is somebody always on site to receive the delivery.

  1. It must be secure enough to protect against vandalism and casual attack using screwdrivers and levers. Locks should not be able to be punched through mountings or be easily hacksawed off. The minimum recommended standard is similar to that of car security. The lock unit should be so designed and fixed that the lock function cannot be removed in less than two minutes using tools such as hammer, screwdriver, combination wrench, wire or steel ruler etc. This includes punching in the lock cylinder, extracting or twisting the lock cylinder, or removing, shearing or cutting the padlock or mountings. Locks mounted in the handle assembly are much stronger. Levers should not be able to be inserted around hinge points.
  2. It should be large enough to store all drops and returns without damaging them and keep all items dry.
  3. It must be easily accessible by WHS delivery drivers and not unduly delay them, be securely bolted down and be supplied with sufficient keys.
  4. It must be safe to load unload and to pass by. Back injuries can be caused lifting heavy bundles out of top-opening cabinets. Accordingly, these cabinets do not meet Health and Safety Executive manual handling regulations and will not fulfil best practice within your statutory risk assessment. A cabinet where the front opens to give unimpeded access and a flat loading space allows the cabinet to be loaded or emptied without bending the back and minimises any risk to employees.
  5. It should not have protruding locks, brackets etc that can injure passers by, especially at adult (or child) eye height
  6. Clothing should be manufactured to British Standards, be hard-wearing and provide as much reflective capability as possible.
  7. Trucks and trolleys should be strong enough for proposed loads and comply with manual handling regulations.
